Political Analyst: Gaza Faces a Slow Death Amid Disgraceful International Silence

The people of the Gaza Strip are enduring a deteriorating humanitarian crisis as Israeli bombardments intensify and the blockade—ongoing for more than seven months—continues. UN and local reports indicate that famine is looming for hundreds of thousands of families across the territory, especially in the north.

According to the World Food Programme, 100% of Gaza’s population is now suffering from severe food insecurity, with reported deaths from hunger and serious malnutrition symptoms among children and infants.

Although limited aid shipments have entered through the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings, the quantities are “insufficient to meet minimum needs,” as stated by UNRWA.

In Gaza City and surrounding refugee camps, residents stand in long lines for hours to receive a loaf of bread or a can of milk. Hospitals—operating at drastically reduced capacity—continue to admit patients suffering from acute malnutrition, amid an almost total shortage of medicine and medical supplies.

Palestinian political analyst Dr. Atef Abu Saif described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “unprecedented and bordering on silent genocide,” noting that the continued Israeli siege and bombings, coupled with international neglect, are forcing residents to endure a “slow death” from hunger and disease.

In an exclusive statement, Abu Saif said: “What is happening in Gaza is not only a military war, but also a systematic starvation campaign where aid is used as a political weapon.” He warned that northern Gaza is already showing signs of famine by international standards, amid severe shortages of water, food, and collapsing infrastructure.

He added: “The international community merely expresses concern without taking concrete steps to halt this humanitarian collapse,” stressing that “the UN’s failure to enforce a comprehensive humanitarian ceasefire amounts to implicit complicity in this disaster.”

Abu Saif called for the immediate and permanent opening of safe humanitarian corridors and the lifting of the blockade, emphasizing that “military solutions will bring security to no party, while civilians alone bear the heaviest cost.”
