Political Analyst: Netanyahu Seeks Expansion and Annexation of Southern Lebanon under Military Cover
Amid escalating military tensions in Lebanon and increasing Israeli assaults, the situation grows more complex as Israeli attacks widen to include new areas. These attacks are no longer confined to the southern borders but extend to the outskirts of Beirut and Mount Lebanon.

Lebanese political analyst Dr. Mohammad Al-Riz explained that the ongoing assaults by the Israeli occupation army on Lebanon, particularly as the attacks expand beyond the Litani River, reaching Beirut and the southern suburbs, are clear evidence that Israeli objectives go beyond merely protecting the borders. He emphasized that these attacks aim to seize control of Lebanese lands under the pretext of preventing Hezbollah missiles from targeting northern Israel.
He added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to expand and annex areas of southern Lebanon under military and political cover, claiming that these actions aim to prevent Hezbollah’s missile strikes.
Despite Lebanon’s compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for Hezbollah’s withdrawal beyond the Litani River, Israel has not adhered to it. Instead, Netanyahu favors Resolution 1559, which calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah and limiting its arms to the Lebanese army.
He further noted that the military situation in the western sector of Lebanon, known as the Western Beqaa, is of particular concern. This region is considered a major stronghold of Hezbollah and has been subjected to daily intensive airstrikes by the Israeli occupation army, exceeding 100 strikes per day. These strikes primarily target civilian homes, leading to a significant number of martyrs and injured since the beginning of the war.
