Qatar ignores its failure to host the World Cup and offers to host the Olympic Games

The World Cup is not over yet. Qatar is planning to bid for another big tournament, but this time it is much bigger than the World Cup, which is the 2036 Olympics. The Qatari authorities believe that they succeeded in organizing the World Cup, but it seems that they ignored the modest opening ceremony that revealed the cultural poverty of the country. Also, the flight of fans to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt was not a good thing. Hosting, hotels, and tents were not ready to receive all these fans and players.

Qatar’s failure

The US website “Front Office Sports” reported that Qatar has begun preparing for the world’s largest sports championship, including all sports games, in which Doha is preparing to bid for the 2036 Summer Olympics, on the basis that it believes that this year’s World Cup shows the country’s ability to host an event of this size, but Qatar has failed a great deal in hosting the World Cup, and cannot host a bigger event that would be a catastrophe.

Without the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the fans would not have found lodgings in them after failing to find suitable hotel rooms in Qatar. In preparation for the World Cup, Qatar built seven new stadiums, renovated the only existing stadium, and spent at least $229 billion on stadiums, a new subway system, and other infrastructure in preparation for the World Cup. In spite of this, the tournament lost its luster and the fans expressed their dissatisfaction with residing in Qatar.

Poor infrastructure

According to the US website, Qatar hosted the Asian Games, an Olympic-like competition, in 2006 and is seeking to host it again in 2030. Qatar’s hosting of the World Cup raised many issues, foremost among them the treatment of migrant workers, who provided the main building power for the stadiums.

The British newspaper The Guardian reported that at least 6,500 migrant workers have died since the country won the World Cup, and according to the ESPN documentary “Qatar’s World Cup,” the government has avoided compensating their families by attributing deaths to natural causes.

Besides its poor record of human rights and oppression of women, Qatar cannot host a major event of the Olympics because it does not have the proper infrastructure or geographical space to host millions of fans, the country’s temperature is not suitable for holding sporting events and the Olympics cannot be held in winter, the country will be competing for the summer games, which will be held in Paris in 2024, Los Angeles in 2028 and Brisbane in 2032, as India, Indonesia, South Korea and Germany have all shown interest in bidding for the Olympics, the website said.
