Qatari-Muslim Brotherhood conflict.. Why did Doha abandon its support for the group?
Former Qatari Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassim angered Muslim Brotherhood members with his recent comments, attacking them and saying they are not fit for anything.
Observers believe Bin Jassim’s statements reflect Qatar’s use of the group to carry out its plans in the region during the Arab Spring. He abandoned the group after the failure of these plans and the government’s decision to return to the Arabs and conclude reconciliation with the Arab Quartet.
Qatar’s plans
Since 2011 and the eruption of uprisings in Arab countries, foremost among them Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya, Qatar has sought to consolidate Brotherhood rule to implement its extremist agenda.
Following the popular Arab rejection of Brotherhood rule in Egypt, Tunisia, and Sudan and the group’s failure to achieve any success in Libya and Syria, Qatar had no choice but to return to the Arabs out of fear of regional isolation.
In 2014, in an interview with the BBC, he acknowledged Qatari support for the Brotherhood and Islamists in the Middle East, describing them as powerful and unignorably.
In 2016, bin Jassim defended Qatari support for the Brotherhood, claiming that his country supports the choices of peoples, not particular groups.
Qatar began rapprochement with the Arab Quartet once again and pledged to abandon the Brotherhood’s leadership and to deport first- and second-tier leaders.
The Brotherhood remained silent on Qatari practices, fearing the collapse of the group, which suffers from internal divisions and disagreements.
Brotherhood’ anger
Bin Jassim’s recent statements on the program “The Black Box” were the straw that broke the camel’s back, revealing the major differences between the group and Qatar.

Bin Jassim said Doha advised the Brotherhood not to run for president in Egypt because they could not run a shop and not a country the size of Egypt.
A Brotherhood member said that Bin Jassim was the mouthpiece of the Qatari government and regime, and his statements reveal Qatar’s abandonment of the group.

Another said that the group has not changed and is indeed unable to run a state, so why did Qatar give it such huge funds to return to power in Egypt?
