Report: Biden Feels “Betrayed” by Democrats
Two sources told NBC News that U.S. President Joe Biden “felt betrayed by Democrats” who are trying to convince him to withdraw from the presidential race.
The sources told NBC News that the president was “angry” and felt personally hurt by how the party left him out in the open and tried to push him out.
One source said, “Can we remember for a minute that these people who are trying to push Joe Biden out are the same people who literally gave us Donald Trump?
“In 2015, Obama, Pelosi, and Schumer sidelined Biden in favor of Hillary; they were wrong then, and they are wrong now.”
The source pointed to polls in the 2016 election that showed Hillary Clinton leading by up to nine points.
The source added, “Maybe we should learn some lessons from 2016; one is that polls are nonsense – just ask Secretary Clinton. And second, maybe, just maybe, Joe Biden is more connected to actual Americans than Obama-Pelosi-Schumer?”
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have spent weeks listening to their members’ concerns and relaying them to Mr. Biden.
Publicly, the three have said they support whatever decision Biden makes. Dozens of Legislators Urge Him to Withdraw
The number of Democratic legislators calling for Biden to withdraw from the presidential race has risen to 35, while Biden has confirmed he will resume his campaign next week.
In a statement from his campaign team, Biden said he would focus more on how to defeat his Republican rival Donald Trump, saying that the stakes for his victory are high.
Biden insists he can defeat Trump in the race for the White House, but he previously stated that he might withdraw in one of two cases: either due to a medical condition or if poll results show he has no chance of winning. A Crossroads
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party’s options are shrouded in uncertainty, standing at a crossroads.
A poll conducted by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research showed that about 6 out of 10 Democrats believe Kamala Harris would do a good job as president instead of Biden, but the dilemma is not who would replace Biden as much as it is about his withdrawal, which only he can decide as the primary election winner.
Democrats’ fears are growing that Biden may become an obstacle to critical calculations. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi explicitly told Biden that he could destroy Democrats’ chances of winning the House in November if he continues to seek a second term, according to CNN.
Politico reported that Pelosi called for an open vote process to choose the party’s next candidate if Biden steps down.
Former President Barack Obama, who still has significant influence in the party, broke his long silence, saying that Biden should reconsider his candidacy.
Earlier American reports indicated that Democrats were counting on pressure from both Obama and Pelosi to convince Biden that it was time to rest, given that they are among his closest allies.
Democrats said fundraising campaigns for Biden‘s re-election have become suspended, despite the Democratic Party planning to accelerate the announcement of Biden‘s nomination and his commitment to continue the race.
