Saied pledges to fight corruption during his electoral campaign… What is the connection with the Brotherhood?
Tunisian President Kais Saied, in his first appearance since the launch of the electoral campaign for the presidential elections that began on September 14, has pledged to “hold the corrupt accountable,” which observers view as a reference to the corruption that spread during the “black decade” experienced by Tunisia under the rule of the Brotherhood.

The electoral campaign for the presidential elections started on September 14 and will continue until October 4, while the elections will take place on the 6th of the same month. Three candidates are competing: the outgoing president Kais Saied, the leader of the “Azimoun” movement, Ayachi Zammal, who is currently in prison, and the leader of the People’s Movement, Zouhair Magzaoui.
It is worth noting that Saied achieved “a landslide victory over his opponent Nabil Karoui with a record voting percentage of 72.71% to 27.29%” five years ago, gaining, according to observers, a “popular legitimacy that no Tunisian president had previously achieved.”
