Shakhbut bin Nahyan: UN expert panel documents Houthi abuses in Yemen
Sheik Shakhbut bin Nahyan al-Nahyan, the UAE minister of state, said that the UN expert team had documented serious violations by Houthi militias in Yemen.
The UAE Minister of State said, “There is a party to the Yemeni crisis that refuses to meet with the UN special envoy. The Houthi militias are recruiting children to fight and attacking innocent people inside and outside the country”.
Sheik Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan added that the Houthi militias held the future of Yemen hostage because of their recklessness in ignoring international law. It is our duty not to allow the Yemeni people to remain in this situation and their lives cannot remain without opportunities and without hope.
“The Houthis must be held accountable and it is time for the international community to take serious steps to put pressure on them and those who support them”, he said.
He said the UAE’s goal is to support the Yemeni people, and we will be the first to support them. As long as the current situation continues, we will see more suffering.
