Somalia – The submission of two members of the al-Shabaab movement to the Somali army

Al-Shabaab hemorrhaging in Somalia as its members continue to surrender to government forces under pressure from military operations.

According to state-run Voice of the Army radio, two members of extremist militias surrendered to government forces in the central province of Hiiraan.

The two gunmen were identified as Abdul Fattah Ibrahim Mahmoud and Othman Ibrahim Daoud, who announced in statements carried by official media that they had abandoned extremist ideology.

More recently, the number of al-Shabaab members who surrender to the federal government has increased. Anyone who renounces terrorist ideology enjoys a general amnesty and undergoes a rehabilitation program before it is reintegrated into society.

Earlier on Thursday, four Turkish citizens were injured in a car bomb attack in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

According to Somali media, the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device planted next to the road the car was traveling in.
