Southern forces capture largest al-Qaeda stronghold in Abyan
Yemeni Security Belt in Abyan province announced, on Friday, that the “Omran” valley in Mudiyah has been completely cleansed of terrorist elements.
Southern forces on Thursday took full control of the largest al-Qaeda stronghold in the Omran valley, Southern Transitional Council spokesman Brig. Gen. Abdullatif al-Sayed said in a statement broadcast by Aden TV.
The southern forces, led by Abyan security chief Abu Mashaal al-Kazemi, are continuously combing the area to make sure it is free of terrorist elements, he said.
Al-Sayed praised the co-operation and participation of the people of Mudiyah and Abyan in general with the southern forces in military operations against terrorist groups.
Gen. Mukhtar al-Nubi, commander of the Abyan Operations Command, said al-Qaeda camps in eastern Mudiyah are under the control of the southern armed forces. He reassured Abyan residents that the southern forces are inflicting heavy losses on the terrorist groups.
In a statement, al-Nubi said the Eastern Arrow military operation in Abyan province and the joint southern forces are making continuous progress until the remaining terrorist elements are eliminated.
Al-Nubi vowed to clear Abyan of all terrorist camps within the coming hours and days.
The southern forces are continuing their military operations in Abyan province amid collapses among the ranks of terrorist elements who have lost their camps and main strongholds where they had been entrenched for many years.
