Sudan: Al-Burhan forcibly recruits children

Al-Burhan inaugurates the Mr. Hab Shendi camp for recruiting children, where al-Burhan not only victimizes children through airstrikes but also recruits them, indoctrinating them with his agenda and the Brotherhood’s agenda, forcing them to fight on the front lines.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that around 16,000 children have been forcibly recruited since the beginning of the conflict in South Sudan. It stated that “serious violations of children’s rights, including assassinations, abductions, and sexual violence, continue to occur throughout the country.”

A report from the United Nations rapporteur revealed that the number of children killed in battles in Khartoum, recruited by the army, has exceeded a thousand.

There is widespread concern about the recruitment and use of children by al-Burhan in the current conflict in Sudan. It is noted that children from impoverished families in the outskirts of Khartoum and Arab tribes in Darfur and Kordofan are targeted.

UNICEF explained that since the start of the conflict in 2013, the situation of children in South Sudan has deteriorated, with “the recruitment of children of both sexes and their use in war by both government forces and armed groups.”

These children are referred to as “child soldiers,” indicating their wearing of military uniforms and carrying weapons. However, their practical use goes beyond mere participation in combat, often involving them in conveying messages and sending them to battle zones. Girls are frequently used for sexual purposes or forced marriages.
