Sudanese Foreign Ministry Rejects Defamation Campaign Against Saudi Arabia on Social Media
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced its rejection of the severe insults directed at the Saudi leadership on social media platforms, noting that such language does not reflect the Sudanese people’s known courtesy and respect towards their Saudi counterparts.
In a statement, the ministry stated that it has been monitoring writings and comments by Sudanese columnists and activists on social media platforms over the past few days, addressing Sudanese-Saudi relations in a manner inconsistent with the true stance of the Sudanese government and people towards the Kingdom.
Recent days have witnessed a surge in writings resembling a campaign against Saudi Arabia by some writers and activists, following the publication of a video showing celebrations by supporters of the Rapid Support Forces during military training in southern Saudi Arabia. This incident led to tension between the two countries, prompting the Sudanese Foreign Ministry to summon the Saudi Ambassador to provide explanations regarding the video.
The Foreign Ministry expressed its unequivocal rejection of what it referred to as “severe insults directed at the Saudi leadership and language that does not resemble the Sudanese people’s known courtesy and respect towards their brethren, especially the esteemed kings, princes, and leaders of sisterly countries.”
The ministry reiterated Sudan’s keenness to maintain these longstanding friendly and strategic relations, emphasizing the special nature of the relationship with Saudi Arabia due to the religious, linguistic, geographical, and common destiny ties, as well as mutual interests, considering Saudi Arabia as the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
Furthermore, the ministry urged opinion writers, commentators, and social media activists to refrain from anything that could harm the relations between the two sisterly countries and the symbols and leaders of Saudi Arabia and other sisterly and friendly nations.
Among the writings were reports about Saudi Arabia detaining a ship carrying weapons to Sudan, which was later released. These reports were disseminated by Sudanese writers and activists, and also stirred discussion among Saudi activists, yet the army has not issued any comments on the incident.
