Surprise 2026… Trump Builds the American Arc de Triomphe
U.S. President Donald Trump plans to construct an “Arc de Triomphe” to coincide with the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, which will be celebrated in July 2026.
In a recent interview, Trump stated that the long-awaited Arc de Triomphe is expected to begin construction “sometime within the next two months,” according to the American site Politico.
Speaking to Politico by phone from his Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump said: “Construction hasn’t started yet… it will start within the next two months… it’s going to be great. Everyone loves it. They love the ballroom too. But they adore the Arc de Triomphe.”
The proposed structure — loosely designed after European victory memorials — is one of many flagship projects personally championed by Trump.
Over the past months, Trump has occasionally displayed a model of the proposed arch. Plans were made to build it near the Lincoln Memorial, at the far end of a bridge leading to the National Celebration Plaza in Arlington.
Trump described the project as a national landmark intended to honor American history and military service, although critics have raised questions about cost, aesthetics, and whether the executive branch has the authority to move forward unilaterally with such a construction in Washington.
Trump has also promoted an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event on the White House grounds scheduled for June 14.
When asked which fighter he would like to face in the UFC match at the White House, Trump deferred to UFC President Dana White, his longtime ally, to select the fighters.
Trump said: “Well, Dana is going to choose them. He’s the best at picking fighters, right?” He added: “He’ll pick the best fighters. All the matches will be title fights. I think it’s going to be the best ever. Really amazing.”
Trump indicated there could be “many matches, like ten matches,” suggesting the event will be a championship-level showcase rather than a single bout.
