Syrian Analyst: What’s happening in Suwayda is attempts to sow discord and create a state of disturbance among citizens 

A large number of residents in the city of Suwayda in southern Syria have been protesting for the fourth consecutive day against what they refer to as “rampant corruption” across all sectors of the state. This has led to the suffocating economic crisis in Syria alongside the civil war. Some Syrians view these protests as movements to exacerbate the situation and sow discord within the country.

Incitement of Discord

Dr. Khiyam Al-Zaabi, an analyst and researcher at the Syrian Euphrates University, stated: “What is happening in Suwayda involves some attempts to incite discord and exploit any incident, linking it to political dimensions to accuse one party over another, thereby creating tension and disturbance among citizens. There are those who aim to spread toxicity, attempting to fish in troubled waters and directing accusations at the government to tarnish its image, in an effort to keep it occupied with internal matters.” The Syrian analyst added: “Today, what’s happening in Suwayda is being reduced to Facebook sites broadcasting images and videos from abroad, in which they attach rumors and lies to the governing institutions of the homeland. To the point that we almost suspect that everything happening in southern Syria is instigated by certain covert chambers serving specific agendas. This ends up with conclusions that only serve certain known entities both internally and externally.”

U.S. Plan

He clarified that the United States and its allies have their own objectives and plans, and Syria’s well-being, prosperity, and stability are not their concern. That’s why millions are allocated to those who execute their plans, supporting human rights platforms, groups, and movements that bolster their revolutionary activities. They are hosted in their hotels to train them on how to dismantle the state and combat protective institutions, primarily the armed forces and the Ministry of Interior. Thus, the United States’ influence is present in everything happening in the region, especially in Syria. It is the main hidden player with connections to all parties. It is evident that the United States is a major player in prolonging the war of attrition in Syria.
