Tehran Begins Renovation of the “House of Resistance” by Expanding Armament for Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces

Iran is keen to leak information about its military capabilities to the media to project an image of strength to regional and international powers.

Amid losses in Syria and Lebanon, where it has lost key proxies, Tehran is intensifying military support to its allies in Iraq to maintain its remaining influence in the region. Media reports have unveiled Iranian efforts to equip the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) with advanced ballistic missiles and drones in an unprecedented manner.

According to Kuwait’s Al-Jarida newspaper, a senior official in the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that “Tehran has begun renovating the ‘House of Resistance’ in the region.” This process involves restructuring IRGC leadership and relocating several key figures for their safety, except for Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary-General Naim Qassem, who insisted on staying in Lebanon.

The official also reported that the IRGC’s counterintelligence unit launched a broad operation to uncover infiltrations and spies working for Israel or other adversaries. Hezbollah and allied factions in Iraq and Syria were instructed to suspend their activities until these infiltrations were identified, even if this created the appearance of diminished resistance capabilities.

Analysts believe that the loss of Syrian control under Bashar al-Assad has weakened Tehran’s ability to project power and maintain its network of armed groups across the region, particularly Hezbollah. Although Iran continues to support its proxies in the Middle East, its financial and military capabilities appear to have significantly declined.

Some observers suggest that Tehran is now altering its strategy to prevent the establishment of a new and stable order in Syria.

During a conference in Iraq’s Dhi Qar province, PMF Chief Faleh al-Fayyad stated that the organization possesses undisclosed capabilities, hinting at the equipment and weapons supplied by Iran.

The Al-Jarida source further revealed that Iran secured alternative routes to supply funds and weapons to Hezbollah, bypassing Beirut International Airport due to its close surveillance by foreign intelligence agencies. Large sums of money and significant quantities of arms were reportedly transferred to Hezbollah via secret channels, including from Syria.

Additionally, Tehran claimed to have doubled its production of ballistic missiles, particularly hypersonic ones, as well as advanced drones, in response to recent Israeli attacks.
