The British Parliament calls for classifying the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization

Amidst strong criticism of their government’s policy towards Tehran and the Revolutionary Guard, British MPs renewed their call for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to be classified as a terrorist organization, listing terrorist attacks and threats it faces in the Middle East, the world, and even in Britain.

“In a dangerous and complex world, Iran is one of the most urgent threats to Britain’s national interests and internal security,” said British Conservative MP Brendan Clarke-Smith.

According to Iran International, Smith added: “For a long time the international community has adopted a short-sighted and incorrect approach towards the fundamentalist regime in Iran.”

The British MP continued: “Reports suggest that the Biden government’s partial deal with Iran will allow Tehran to enrich uranium up to 60%. This is worrying enough.”

He referred to the news related to negotiations between the representatives of the United States and South Korea on ways to release more than $7 billion to Iran in Seoul, and added that the issue of the more than 10 billion detained in Iraq might also be on the negotiating table.

While Britain has not yet designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization, Clark Smith, referring to the British parliament’s vote to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization by London, said, “The question is, what do we wait for? The IRGC’s activity is expanding and concerns about it have increased across Britain.

“A complete boycott of the IRGC is a welcome step, but I fear it will not adequately cover the extent of the threat posed by Iran’s brutal proxies.”

Conservative MP Gwyn Williamson referred to arms transfers from Iran to Russia for attacking Ukraine, saying: “We must do more to prevent this flow, or we will undermine all our other efforts to support Ukraine.”

“Swift action is needed, and it’s important that we stay the course, as we did in the Ukraine war,” he said.

British MP John Howell spoke about human rights violations in Iran, saying: “Human rights violations include women, girls and gays, and since 1978 between 4,000 and 6,000 LGBT people have been executed.”

“The IRGC is at the very top of the pyramid of the Tehran regime’s brutal activity,” said Labor MP John Crayer.

“Let’s make it clear who we’re dealing with; The fascist clergy and the murderous lunatics who run Iran, and their ugly servants in the Revolutionary Guard, are practically the modern version of the Nazis.”

“If the current Iranian regime had existed during World War II, they would have supported the Nazis.”

“This terrorist and criminal network is a clear threat beyond Iran and the Middle East,” he said of the IRGC.

He emphasized the IRGC designation as a terrorist, saying, “I thought that the least that a government can actually do a democratic government is to ban the IRGC completely.”

British MP Sarah Green called on “the government once again to stop equivocating and designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization, which we all know.”

“As the Foreign Relations Committee has said, this designation would be a logical extension of the restrictions on members of the IRGC and would help send a clear message to Tehran that we are intolerant of its nefarious activities.”

“Designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization will strengthen Britain’s policy towards Iran and will be a challenge to Tehran’s behavior at home and abroad,” she added.

During the meeting, other British lawmakers also voiced their opinions on Iran’s threats and also called on the British government to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization, according to Iran International.

Although the IRGC has been designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, the European Union, Canada and Britain have yet to take such a step.
