The duality of Doha – What are the real reasons behind the visit of the Foreign Minister of Qatar to Russia after supporting of Ukraine?

It seems that Qatar is continuing its double-faced policy and playing with fire in light of the war raging between Russia and Ukraine, at times declaring its support for one of them and at times confirming its assistance to the other. Doha officials visit and communicate with the leaders of the two countries, and through its statements promote a false claim for peace, while in secret it increases the flames of disagreements and ignites conflicts by supporting mercenaries.

This facet of Qatari duplication was renewed through the visit of Sheik Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, to Russia, and his meeting with Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, which comes at a critical stage due to the conditions experienced by the world as a result of the escalation in Ukraine, and includes discussing the latest developments in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and examining the continuous diplomatic efforts to resolve this crisis, as promoted by the Qatari websites.

The visit comes after phone calls between the Qatari Foreign Minister and his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts, in addition to contacts with a number of European capitals, according to the Qatari Foreign Ministry statement.

Qatar’s rapprochement with Russia shows a duality; Doha had previously announced its support for Ukraine at the beginning of the crisis during a telephone conversation between the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

During the call, the Emir of Qatar called on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve the dispute through constructive dialog and diplomatic means, and to settle international disputes by peaceful means, and not to take anything that would lead to further escalation. The position of the State of Qatar and its keenness on the Charter of the United Nations and the established principles of international law, including the obligations under the Charter to settle international disputes by peaceful means and to abide by the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of States.

In the second contact during the crisis, Zelensky held talks with Tamim bin Hamad to impose economic sanctions on Russia, in order to stop its steps and aggression on other European countries, in this case Ukraine, which was welcomed by Qatar, which in turn hopes to benefit from this for its own interests, and to be the gas broker in Europe, which proved unable to implement it.

The hidden and real position of Qatar is different from what it is trying to promote through its official statements, which claim to settle disputes peacefully, because it seeks to benefit from the crisis, to emerge as a country supporting both countries in a fake manner, while in fact it continues to support terrorism in Europe.

Qatar provided funding to Ukraine for war volunteers from European countries from the “Volunteer Corps”, with the aim of increasing conflict in Europe, igniting war there and generating a huge crisis for the continent and the world, up to the point of cutting off Europe’s gas and showing its time as a savior after those crises were managed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the creation of a “foreign international corps” of volunteers from abroad, adding: “This will be the main proof of your support for our country”.

As soon as Qatar learned of these steps, it rushed with its mercenaries to fight in Ukraine, communicate with new followers, fight among the Ukrainian people, to ignite war and direct strikes against Russia, while openly trying to claim its endeavors to resolve the crisis and reach out to the parties to the conflict, and call for restraint and resolve the Russian-Ukrainian crisis through dialog and diplomatic means.
