The Houthis Attempt to Seize Residents’ Lands in Taiz and Turn Them into Mobilization Camps

Yemeni sources have warned that Houthi militias are preparing to establish training camps west of Taiz city as the school year nears its end and summer camps begin.

According to the local news site Al-Muntasaf. these sources report that these movements aim to select suitable locations for setting up new training camps and military barracks in the region, in order to recruit more young people and students and push them toward the Marib front.

This move is part of the militias’ efforts to strengthen their military presence in the areas under their control. raising concerns among local residents who fear that their lands will be turned into military bases and that more of their properties will be seized under the pretext of combating what the Houthis call enemy aggression.

As the school year comes to an end in Houthi-controlled areas, the group has begun dispatching committees to schools in Sanaa to divide students into groups. preparing them for transfer to training camps before being deployed to battlefronts.

Sources also revealed that Houthi supervisors are subjecting school students to intensive weapons training and encouraging them to join combat. offering financial incentives and distributing weapons. They noted that recruitment primarily targets students from impoverished families. often middle schoolers, who are enlisted without their parents’ consent.

It is worth mentioning that the Houthi group has used schools, mosques, and boys’ summer centers as recruitment tools. demonstrating a high capacity for child enlistment through a network of supervisors and mobilizers. including sheikhs and neighborhood leaders. Significant financial resources have been allocated to facilitate this process and influence children.
