The invisible guide.. Why was the Muslim Brotherhood late in announcing Abdulhaq as a guide?
Divisions are growing within the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood over the invisible leader or most controversial figure, Salah Abdulhaq.
The announcement that Abdulhaq was appointed acting leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, was leaked from within the organization, but not officially, as the dispute with the younger generation is undermining the mission of Abdulhaq, who represents the Muslim Brotherhood’s older generation.
Why has Abdulhaq not been officially announced?
Sources close to the Muslim Brotherhood revealed the reasons behind the delay in announcing Abdulhaq’s appointment as acting General Guide of the Brotherhood, succeeding Ibrahim Munir, who died last November. This leaves behind deep divisions and disagreements within the organization, which is divided on three fronts.
Sources noted that the delay in the announcement was also due to differences among the leadership of the London Front regarding the position of acting supreme guide, as there is a split between one front supporting the candidacy of “Abdulhaq” and another front supporting the candidacy of Hilmi Al-Jazzar.
Differences Abound
The differences between Hilmi Al-Jazzar and Mohieddin al-Zayt over the position of the guide are heated. While the former wants to control the position, he finds himself entitled to do so, and enjoys the support of a large sector within the Brotherhood, especially youth foundations, the leadership of the London Front insists on implementing what Ibrahim Munir recommended regarding the appointment of Abdulhaq as the acting leader of the Supreme Guide.
Abdulhaq Character
According to experts and people close to the group, Abdulhaq lacks the qualities to become a leader for any entity and is unable to communicate with members of the organization and with entities associated with the group. Abdulhaq is also described as a weak personality and not a cliche; This will increase the crisis of organization in communication.
Continuous conflict
Aqeel al-Khatib, a researcher on Islamist groups, said the leadership struggle within the Brotherhood will continue in the coming period without either party being able to resolve it in its favor, especially since the conflict is closer to what it was in Ibrahim Munir’s lifetime, and the Istanbul Front will continue to emphasize Mahmoud Hussein as the group’s general guide through statements.
“The organization is still afraid to officially announce Abdulhaq as a general guide, fearing that other fronts, including the youth fronts, will splinter, especially since Abdulhaq does not have the special ability to lead the affairs of the Brotherhood,” Aqeel added.
