The Military Wing of the Muslim Brotherhood: What Do You Know About the “Fajr Forces” Group?

Recently, the Fajr Forces have made an unprecedented appearance in military parades. This Lebanese Sunni political organization is a branch of the “Muslim Brotherhood” worldwide. It was formed by some young members of the Islamic Group (Muslim Brotherhood – Lebanon) after the Israeli invasion in 1982, in the southern areas from Sidon to the border villages of Arqoub.

Following a campaign of arrests targeting the Islamic Group by Israeli forces, which affected the group’s leaders and members in Sidon, groups from the organization moved to Tripoli and Beirut. They rented houses, and some of them carried out attacks on the Sidon-Beirut road, coordinating with “Hezbollah,” which was in its early modest beginnings.

After the liberation of Sidon on February 16, 1985, the “Islamic Group” maintained a “symbolic” force within the ranks of “Hezbollah” in the south, operating under its leadership’s decision, according to a portrait published by “Al Arabiya Net” about this Brotherhood group.

The group disappeared in 2006 and recently re-emerged following the recent events in Gaza, announcing its military operations in southern Lebanon. It aimed to play a substitute role for “Hezbollah” in an agreement between the two parties. On October 21, the group claimed in a statement that it had launched new and concentrated rocket strikes targeting Israeli sites in the south, achieving direct hits.

The “group” faced its first internal rift when it expressed its political stances on various issues and declared itself an “influential political group in the region,” causing internal disagreements between those who believed it should stay out of politics and those who thought otherwise, according to “Arabi 21” website.

However, the deepening of the division within the group was due to the existence of its armed faction, which was denied by the Tripoli office management. This led to the decision to separate from the parent “group” and form the “Islamic Group” in Beirut.

After the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War in 1975, the “group” formed the “Mujahideen in the Way of Allah” organization to defend Sunni areas in Tripoli, Beirut, and Sidon. However, it eventually handed over its heavy weapons and centers to the Arab Deterrent Forces.

The “Fajr Forces” now work to achieve several objectives, such as being the reference for any military actions against Israel conducted by “Hezbollah” that it does not wish to announce. They also serve the Hamas agenda.

The emergence of the “Fajr Forces” and their cooperation with “Hezbollah” have demonstrated the new strategy of political Islam and its operation by the Iranians, showing that there is no problem in cooperating with Iran for the majority of political Islam movements (Hamas – Al-Qaeda – Muslim Brotherhood) to achieve several objectives, according to “Al-Watan” website.
