The Million March of Steadfastness: Southern Yemen confronts the return of Brotherhood militias

The governorates of southern Yemen, foremost among them the capital Aden and the city of Mukalla in Hadramawt, are preparing for a massive popular mobilization tomorrow Friday afternoon under the slogan “The Million March of Steadfastness and Popular Escalation”. These demonstrations come in response to a call by President Aidrous al-Zubaidi to reaffirm commitment to the South’s national achievements and to reject all schemes aimed at circumventing its cause.

Sources within the organizing committee and popular movement forces confirmed that this mass rally carries a firm message against attempts by the Muslim Brotherhood to return once again to the southern scene, according to the website Al-Mashhad Al-Arabi.

Activists noted that the southern street will renew tomorrow its categorical rejection of the return of Brotherhood-affiliated militias, under all their designations, to the southern governorates, considering that the era of tutelage and Brotherhood manipulation of the South’s resources has come to an irreversible end.

The “Million March of Steadfastness” seeks to achieve several strategic objectives at this critical stage, notably declaring total popular alignment behind the Southern Transitional Council as the sole bearer of the cause, confronting suspicious plans aimed at tearing apart the southern social fabric and weakening the internal front, and affirming that the southern street is ready for on-the-ground escalation to protect its security as well as its military and political gains.

The demonstrations in Aden and Mukalla acquire particular significance as they embody the unity of the southern stance from the far east to the far west. Observers believe that this movement constitutes a barrier against hostile forces and a clear message both domestically and internationally that the South is an indispensable actor in any political settlement, and that the will of the people is the sole source of legitimacy and decision-making.

These mobilizations come amid economic and security challenges, as Southerners insist that peaceful struggle and popular escalation are the most powerful tools for securing legitimate rights and protecting the South from the threat posed by ideologically driven organizations and terrorist militias affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, which are once again attempting to infiltrate in order to destabilize the region.
