The Muslim Brotherhood Attempts to Claim Credit for the Syrian Revolution’s Victories

The Muslim Brotherhood is attempting to attribute the victories of the Syrian revolution and the fall of Bashar al-Assad‘s regime to their militias and armed brigades.

Dr. Amer Al-Bou Salama, the General Supervisor of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, claimed that the group had recognized the dangers of the Syrian regime from the outset, starting with Hafez al-Assad and continuing with his son Bashar.

In a televised interview, he stated that despite decades of oppression against the group, it had contributed to supporting the Syrian revolution. He emphasized that the regime’s downfall was achieved through the unity of all components of the Syrian people.

Al-Bou Salama praised the new political leadership under Ahmed Al-Charaa, expressing the Brotherhood’s full support for this administration and their readiness to cooperate in rebuilding the nation.

He also claimed that although the Brotherhood is not involved in the transitional government, they believe that the current phase requires collective efforts for reconstruction and the establishment of security and stability.

Al-Bou Salama stressed the group’s support for the implementation of transitional justice to ensure accountability for those responsible for crimes against the Syrian people while rejecting vengeance or arbitrary measures. He underlined the need to address the crimes committed by the former regime, including the massacres in Hama and Tadmor prison, and to fairly compensate the victims.

In conclusion, Al-Bou Salama affirmed that the Brotherhood would remain active in the Syrian scene as a partner in state-building and achieving the people’s aspirations.

Many experts and political observers have warned of the Brotherhood’s attempts to ride the wave of victory and claim the triumph solely for themselves, ignoring other revolutionary forces, as they seek to exploit the horrific crimes uncovered in al-Assad’s prisons to secure global recognition for their role.

According to observers, the Brotherhood’s media platforms emphasize that they were the ones who brought down the tyrant Bashar al-Assad, halted the brutal torture campaigns in prisons, and acted as the driving force behind the revolution.
