Total destruction of South Pars: Trump threatens Iran over any renewed targeting of gas facilities in Qatar
U.S. President Donald Trump has warned of a large-scale military response against Iran, threatening to completely destroy the “South Pars” gas field if Tehran were to target gas facilities in Qatar again.
Trump stated that the United States could carry out such an attack “with unprecedented force,” either unilaterally or in coordination with Israel.
Without our knowledge
He clarified that Israel had previously targeted a limited section of the “South Pars” field in Iran, emphasizing that the United States had not been informed in advance of the strike, and that Qatar was neither involved in nor aware of the operation.
He added that Iran had responded by targeting a liquefied natural gas facility in Qatar, describing this response as “unjustified and unfair.”
Red line
Trump stressed that targeting Qatar, which he described as “an innocent state in this context,” constitutes a red line, warning that any further attack on Qatari gas facilities would trigger a decisive U.S. response.
A warning with reservations
Despite his threats, Trump expressed reservations about resorting to such a level of escalation, cautioning against the long-term consequences such an action could have on Iran’s future.
However, he affirmed that he “would not hesitate” to implement this option if Qatari gas facilities were targeted again, signaling Washington’s readiness to escalate should circumstances require it.
