Tunisia: Kais Saied condemns representatives of political Islam
On Tuesday, Tunisia’s President Kais Saied denounced representatives of political Islam in the country. When he spoke to Tunisians about the occasion of the beginning of the consecrated month of Ramadan, he wished that coronavirus pandemic finish soon and also the political epidemics, in a clear reference to Islamists.
Actually, his speech induced many question about the strategy that he would follow to face his political competitors, principally the Islamist Ennahda Party that supports Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi.
Observers said that Saied changed his speech towards the political sides that talk in the name of religion when he went back from his three-day tour to Cairo.
The opposition al-Amal party remarks
On his part, the opposition al-Amal party viewed that inducing this question in Egypt constitute an attempt to let foreign intervention in Tunisia’s internal affairs and represent a threat to the country’s national security. It also affirmed that political Islam must not be faced through attempts to internationalize or hinder the parliament’s work or obstruct the establishment of the Constitutional Court.
The party affirmed again its willingness to bring down representatives of political Islam in the country and make political change with the respect of the constitution and holding elections.
Previously, the President called the political situation in Tunis as painful, affirming the need for a strong political determination to solve the crisis. He also promised to find a solution when he met with some members of the Tunisian community in Egypt.
