Tunisia is preparing for the election of the Council of Regions and Governorates amid warnings from Tunisian President Kais Saied about the infiltration of the Muslim Brotherhood. In the past hours, Kais Saied received Farouk Bouasker, the president of the Independent High Authority for Elections, at the Carthage Palace to follow up on the latest preparations before issuing the call for voters to elect members of the Council of Regions and Governorates, according to a statement from the Tunisian presidency.

Confronting the infiltration of the Muslim Brotherhood

Kais Saied expressed his appreciation for the significant efforts made by several ministries recently to define the electoral districts, especially for the constituencies that did not have well-defined boundaries in any text. The Tunisian President called on the Independent High Authority for Elections to play its role independently and to be vigilant about those who seek to infiltrate it, as they are known for their habit of infiltration and manipulation in various ways, referring to the Tunisian Muslim Brotherhood.

Confronting the Brotherhood’s plan

According to Oussama Aouidet, a Tunisian political analyst, after the parliament in Tunisia had power in the period before July 25, 2021, by appointing the government, withdrawing confidence from it, and enacting legislation, its powers were reduced in the new constitution draft, and a second chamber was added, which is the National Council for Regions and Governorates.

He added that the Tunisian people, after rejecting the Muslim Brotherhood and its leaders and supporters who have become marginalized in the Tunisian public and political spheres, are turning towards electing this council, which will be free from the influence of the Brotherhood, especially after all their files and destructive schemes have been exposed.
