Tunisian judiciary took actions against prominent politicians
The Court of First Instance in Tunisia issued a decision to refer the President of the Ennahdha Brotherhood Movement, Rached Ghannouchi, to the criminal chamber, for electoral crimes.
The prosecutor’s office of the court of first instance in Tunisia had decided to bring former politicians and civil servants to justice.
The Tunisian Public Prosecutor’s Office has decided to refer Rached Ghannouchi leader of the Ennahdha movement, Rached Ghannouchi, the former Prime Minister, to the criminal chamber and appear in front of a criminal chamber on January 19, and other prominent politicians which Youssef Chahed, the leader of the “Heart of Tunisia” party, Nabil Karoui, as well as the President of the Free Patriotic Union Party Slim Riahi, and the former Minister of Defense, Abdelkrim Zbidi, to the criminal leadership, for electoral crimes and receiving funds from unknown sources.
They were referred to the judiciary on several charges; among them; violation of political publicity laws, failure to disclose campaign finances, and other electoral law offenses.
The decision to take action against prominent politicians for alleged electoral crimes was based on a report by the Court of Accounts regarding the premature 2019 presidential elections.

Ghannouchi, Youssef Chahed, Nabil Karoui, and Abdelkrim Zbidi are among a number of government officials campaigning to fight political corruption and support terrorism.
A few days ago, the Tunisian Ministry of Interior arrested Noureddine Bhiri, vice president of the Ennahdha Brotherhood Movement.
Since the announcement of the exceptional measures in the country and the subsequent judicial steps aimed at holding corrupt people accountable, Ennahdha has faced a series of accusations related to corruption in the political sphere, receiving foreign funds, hacking the judiciary, terrorism and political assassinations.
