Tunisian president announces formation of committee to establish a “new republic”

Tunisian President Kais Saied said that Tunisia is fighting a war of attrition “but we will win it”, announcing the formation of a committee to establish a new republic within days.

The Tunisian president stressed that “the historical responsibility required facing difficulties such as the Coronavirus pandemic and the Ukrainian crisis”, pointing out that “there are those who are trying to overthrow the state, tamper with its capabilities, and inflame the situation”.

Last Wednesday, the Tunisian President, Kais Saied, said that “Tunisia is not for sale, nor is it a land without a master for deceit and justification, because the master in it is the people”.

This came in a speech delivered by Saied on the occasion of al-Qadr Night at the Carthage Palace, in the presence of the families of the martyrs and wounded of the armed and security forces, as well as a number of the families of the martyrs of the revolution and its wounded.

“We have not and will not accept any excess of our soil and sovereignty, nor the trampling of rights, and we only accept the return of people’s money to the people”.

Saied called on honorable judges to shoulder their historic law enforcement responsibilities to everyone without exception.

The Tunisian president also said: “Judges must expedite accountability and have sufficient texts to perform their functions until the people’s money returns to the people”.

He continued, “I raise them three noes.. There is no dialog, recognition or reconciliation except with patriots who do not sell or bargain with Tunisia?.

Why do some people come to us from abroad to express their discomfort? ‏Have we expressed discomfort with their choices?

Maher Madhioub, assistant speaker of the dissolved Assembly of Representatives of the People, continues to appeal to foreign powers to interfere in Tunisia’s political affairs and stop Kais Saied’s reform plan.

After appealing to the United States, the Commission of Human Rights and the European Parliament, Maher Madhioub congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron after winning a second term.

Madhioub used the occasion to call on Macron to intervene to save Tunisian democracy, he said.
