Tunisian President: We will continue the fight in a state of law
Tunisian President Kais Saied has said that his country will continue the fight under a state based on law.
This came in his speech during the signing of an agreement between the Telnet complex and the Russian Space Agency to select, train and send a Tunisian female astronaut to the International Space Station.
Saied added: “I am sure that we will succeed in all challenges and we will work to achieve security for our people in all areas.”
He continued: “The movements that want to take us back to the underground.. It has lost all its influence and all its appeal,” he said, referring to the Brotherhood terrorist organization.
At the end of July, Tunisia witnessed massive protests against the Brotherhood’s Ennahdha movement demanding the overthrow of the country’s political system, which were marred by clashes between supporters of the Brotherhood movement and demonstrators.
This was followed by the announcement of the Tunisian President to freeze the work of the parliament and lift the immunity of deputies; Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi was removed from office following protests in Tunisia against the Brotherhood’s policies.
The Tunisian president’s decisions came in response to calls in the street for the implementation of Article 80 of the country’s constitution which authorizes the president to “take exceptional measures in case of imminent danger.”
