Tunisia’s Ennahdha accused of misappropriation of Public Funds

Day after day, the reality of the Muslim Brotherhood movement and its leader, Rached Ghannouchi, is revealed about the way Tunisia was plundered, leading to the total collapse of the country.

Documents proving Ennahdha’s involvement in the looting of the country’s funds are being circulated, the latest of which was Ennahdha’s plan to use foreign investment funds to pump into the movement’s private coffers.

Exploitation of the Central Bank of Tunisia

Documents circulated by the defense team of activist Chokri Belaid revealed meetings held between Najeh Hajj Lateef, the hidden arm of Ghannouchi, and former Central Bank governor Chedly Ayari, with diplomatic officials in Doha.

The committee said the meetings dealt with how to pump money to Tunisia from Qatar through the Central Bank in the form of investment projects that will be available only to Ennahdha leaders.

The documents confirmed that these amounts totaled more than 30 million Euros, which are withdrawn in cash in Qatar and transported to Tunisia, to be entered through the protocol hall at Tunis Carthage airport in cash as well as being spent outside the control of the state.

$2 billion looted by Ennahdha

Karim al-Gharbi, the son-in-law of former President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, unveiled the fate of the Tunisian people’s money since the Brotherhood’s rise to power when he revealed that he had left 5.8 billion dinars ($2 billion) in the country’s coffers.

Al-Gharbi, an international rap artist, said in an interview with the Tunisian Dialog channel: These funds disappeared when Rached Ghannouchi, the head of the Brotherhood’s Ennahdha party, came to power in the 2011 elections.

Observers accused Ennahdha of embezzling Tunisian state funds 10 years ago, pushing it to the brink of bankruptcy and plunging it into severe economic crises.

Kais Saied accusations

Tunisian President Kais Saied said that 460 people looted Tunisian money, offering to settle once it is returned: $4.8 billion in public funds was stolen, he said, calling on merchants to reduce prices.

Kais Saied says: The tens of billions that have been pumped into Tunisia over the past 10 years, during the rule of the Ennahdha Muslim Brotherhood movement in the country, have no impact, in fact, promising to hold accountable everyone involved in the disappearance of donations and loans granted to Tunisia.

During a visit to Tunisia in 2018, former European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said: “The EU has provided €10 billion in aid since 2011, but it is difficult to establish precise figures and data on donations and loans received since the 2011 revolution and on their prospects from an official source until now”.
