Turkey is seeking relations with Egypt along the lines of the UAE and Saudi Arabia
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has said that his country is seeking relations with Egypt similar to those of the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
This came during a press conference for the Turkish Foreign Minister, on Thursday, at the end of the 13th Conference of Turkish Ambassadors in Ankara.
In his speech, he added: “We have always said that the beginning of the process of normalization with Israel and Egypt does not mean that our principles should be dispensed with, especially with regard to the Palestinian question and Jerusalem”.
He expressed his country’s wish that its relations with Egypt gain the same momentum as those with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
The Turkish Foreign Minister pointed to “the existence of reciprocal steps and dialog between his country and Israel within the framework of normalization”.
“When Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid visited Turkey, we announced the reappointment of ambassadors, and now Israel is going to hold elections”, he said. I don’t know whether the appointment of ambassadors will be accepted or not, because this step must be taken by both parties at the same time.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and his statements about new prospects for developing relations with his country’s regional neighbors, have opened the door to many interpretations and predictions of a complete restoration of relations with Egypt in the coming days.
