Erdogan: Turkey strives to improve relations with Gulf States

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed diplomatic efforts to reopen dialog in the Gulf region and remove misunderstandings.

Speaking at a press conference in Istanbul on Monday, Erdogan said Ankara “will do whatever is necessary to strengthen Turkey’s relations with the Gulf States”.

Speaking at the conference, which was carried by the official Anadolu news agency, Erdogan said: “Diplomatic talks with the Gulf States will have a repercussions on the economic well-being of the country”.

He added: “We support the continuation of our ties and solidarity with all Gulf states by strengthening future relations”.

A few days ago, Erdogan said that he would visit the UAE next February at the head of a large delegation, indicating that Ankara intends to achieve rapprochement with Egypt and Israel as well.

Erdogan said he also intends to take some strong steps in relations with the UAE, Anadolu reported.

He said that the agreements signed with the UAE during the Ankara talks last week will usher in a new era in relations between the two countries.

“Sheikh Mohammed ben Zayed al-Nahyane, crown prince of Abou Dabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE armed forces, visited Ankara last November, where he held talks with Erdogan”.

On the sidelines of the visit, the UAE and Turkey concluded agreements and memoranda of understanding covering a number of areas that contribute to strengthening cooperation relations and opening new horizons for joint work between Abou Dabi and Ankara. One agreement was to establish a $10 billion UAE fund to support investments in Turkey.
