The UAE on Sunday announced new types of residency and work visas in the country as part of the country’s efforts to facilitate residency issues for foreigners residing in the country.

This came in statements by Thani Ben Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade in the United Arab Emirates, on the sidelines of his participation in the conference that launched the first package of economic and development projects in the country on the occasion of the year 50.

The UAE minister said that his country has announced the modernization of the residency system in the local market for resident expatriates, as well as the introduction of green residency in the country, in order to provide the best models to facilitate residency in the country.

The minister also announced that the UAE is offering free residency to foreigners residing or wishing to reside in the UAE for the first time at the federal level for six months instead of the current three months. The UAE also raised the age of children under residency to 25, instead of the current 18.

Last June, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed ben Rachid Al Maktoum issued a cabinet decision to amend some provisions regarding the regulation and development of services in the Nationality and Residency Affairs Sector and outlets in the Federal Authority for Identity and Nationality.

In a related development, Minister Thani Ben Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi announced that the UAE will conclude eight economic agreements in the coming period to increase the volume of investments and improve economic relations.
