UAE sends food supply plane to Gambia
The United Arab Emirates sent an aid plane carrying 48 tons of basic food supplies to the Republic of The Gambia, as part of the continuous support of the UAE and contributing to the alleviation of the humanitarian situation and supporting the living standards of a large segment of the population in many areas.
HE Sultan Ali Al Harbi, the non-resident Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Gambia, said that sending these food supplies to the Republic of the Gambia comes within the framework of the directives of the wise leadership to provide support and respond to the humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people, especially women and children.
“The Republic of the Gambia is one of the first countries to benefit from the UAE medical aid provided to curb the spread of COVID-19, as it received in May 2020 a medical supply plane and supplies that benefited about 5,000 health care workers”, Al Harbi added. His Excellency also explained that the United Arab Emirates sent 67 tons of food in April last year to strengthen the Gambian government’s efforts in mitigating the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on many economic and social activities.
The United Arab Emirates’ aid to the Gambia over the past 10 years has reached 100 million dirhams. It has been distributed in several areas, such as: development, social, education, health, water, etc.
