Will Qatar take control of Twitter through Elon Musk?
Prolificsolns.com revealed new details about the Twitter deal of popular businessman Elon Musk, of which Qatar is partially funding. These details centered on Doha’s intent to co-finance the Twitter Portal.
The author of the post, Donald Bramer, argues that the answer may be simple and can be summed up in the fact that it’s another big deal, and that it has become a very important debate because Mask’s purchase of the giant social media platform Twitter could adversely affect freedom.
Fears are growing that Mask will stifle freedom of expression, yet we all hope that Elon Musk will deal with it impartially and keep his promise to respect freedom of expression.
On the other hand, Qatar is at the heart of Mask’s $375 million Twitter deal made by Qatar Holding. Qatar is a country known for its crackdown on freedom of expression, and its presence in this deal has only one logical explanation, which is the suppression of freedoms.
Qatar had suppressed the freedom of al-Murra for the first time since they took to the streets last summer to only demand the right to vote and run for office, after which they would face life sentences, only for expressing their opinions and demanding their rights.
Doha also takes a keen interest in the Global Tweet Site even before it finances its purchase, employing a huge number of electronic flies, and imposing strict censorship on anyone tweeting from within Qatari territory, and on anyone who tries to express their opinion if it is inconsistent with the policy of the Qatari regime.
At some point, Qatar might try to put restrictions on Twitter, especially in their country, the author of the article says. This will only reinforce the restrictions already imposed on Twitter around the world, as Qatar can impose more censorship on the site and we will see more restrictions and stifling of freedoms.
On the other hand, the author does not rule out the Qatari desire to invest and increase revenues by financing the purchase of Twitter, but he focused on the point of suppression of freedoms, as it is the main goal of Qatar.
The writer also speculates another possible scenario for the future of Twitter, which is that Iran, which is gaining influence through Qatar and its mediation in various international forums, may have control over this large platform, but what kind of investment will they make?
At least, they can be part of it, which is natural. While Twitter was banning President Trump, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, and others from accessing it, Twitter allowed those we considered terrorists to continue to have a platform, and Twitter owners even allowed the ISIS leadership a platform on their site.
In fact, having banned a president and a TV producer because they dislike their views and allowed terrorism to own platforms and tweet, there would be nothing to stop Iran from investing in Twitter with its ally Qatar being an important investor on the global site.
The Qatari and Iranian point of view is also expected to dominate the website’s publications and appear in a promotional way to followers. However, observers say that what Qatar and Iran want to show before the eyes of social media followers is not just a point of view, but rather a dedication to the terrorist agenda of both countries and an attempt to wage psychological war on the Arab peoples even from within their mobile phones and devices, which they use constantly.
Others say that Qatar, which is helping Iran with its expansionist projects, will do it a great service by occupying even the virtual spaces of the Arab street.
