World War II Threatens the UK with 170 ‘Dormant’ Bombs

It seems that the dangers of war persist even decades later, as World War II bombs continue to pose a significant threat, even in the most developed countries.

In the United Kingdom, more than 170 war-era bombs have been discovered beneath a sports field in England, reflecting the long-lasting legacy of battles that ended nearly 80 years ago.

The unexploded ordnance, found during site renovations, has been described as “training bombs” that still contain a charge and must be removed by specialists, according to The Washington Post.

The BBC reported that the first two bombs were discovered last month by workers digging the foundations at Scots Park, in the northeastern town of Wooler, about an hour’s drive north of Newcastle.

The UK Ministry of Defence emphasized the need for a full survey of the site. In just two days, 155 bombs were found within a 21-square-foot area.

In a press statement, the local council said: “It quickly became clear that the scale of the problem was far greater than anyone had anticipated.”
