Yemeni army records 130 Houthi violations of humanitarian truce

The Yemeni army announced on Tuesday that it has recorded 130 violations of the humanitarian truce by Iranian-backed Houthi militias in eight provinces.

All fronts in the governorates of Dhale, Taiz, Lahij, Hodeida, Hajah, Al-Jawf, and Marib came under a series of ground and artillery attacks by Houthi militias in the past 24 hours from Monday evening to Tuesday evening.

In a statement issued by the Yemeni army, the Houthi militias committed 130 breaches of the truce, while Ta’izz which witnessed 44 coup violations.

The Houthis also committed four violations in Dhale, nine in al-Bahr and Hays, 28 on the battlefronts west of Hajah, 24 on the battlefronts north, west and south of Marib, 20 on the battlefronts north and east of al-Jawf, and the Lahij front recorded the lowest rate of violations with one violation, the statement said.

According to the statement, the Houthi militias committed violations ranging from ground attacks to artillery shelling. They also constructed trenches and fortifications, built side supply routes, and pushed reinforcements and combat vehicles to various battlefronts.

In an indication that Houthi militias are exploiting the UN truce, the statement said Houthi militias are bringing tanks, BMP vehicles, rocket launchers, dozens of patrols and vehicles to the western and southern fronts in Marib

The UN humanitarian truce between the Iranian-backed Houthi militia and the Yemeni government came into effect at 16:00 GMT Saturday evening, the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.

The two-month truce has been widely welcomed by Yemen, the international community, the United Nations and the region, but its steadfastness is being undermined by escalating Houthi militia violations.

The humanitarian truce will not hold much after the violations of the Houthi militias, which are betting on buying time to regroup their military ranks and bring more masses of fighters to the lines of fire.

The Houthi militias are also replete with black past experiences of breaking the truce and turning against the agreements, making the 4-day truce threatened to collapse at any time, especially since there is no monitoring to consolidate the truce.
