Yemeni government puts an end to Brotherhood recruitment in Taiz

The Yemeni government intervened to stop the Brotherhood’s manipulation in Taiz province after it was directed to stop recruiting new security forces that sought to undermine consensus in the country.

Military and security leaders loyal to the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organization have sought since last month to carry out recruitment campaigns in the countryside and the city of Taiz, sparking angry Yemeni reactions, considering them mines to hinder the structure of the army and security forces.

Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed instructed Interior Minister Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Haidan to stop any new recruitment by the ministry.

The Yemeni prime minister also ordered the suspension of any recruitment measures, including those based on previous directives on adding new security forces, as per the directives of the President of the Presidential Command Council, Rashad al-Alimi.

On Tuesday, Yemeni Prime Minister Ali Abdullah Saleh met with the Interior Minister and stressed the need to strengthen vigilance and security readiness, as well as bolster intelligence efforts to arrest terrorist and criminal elements and maintain security and stability.

Security sources said that Brotherhood leaders had already begun a recruitment campaign within the General Security Forces in Taiz since last month, under the framework of state institutions, and at two training camps.

Pro-Brotherhood leader Mohammed Salem launched a recruitment campaign at the Technical School and the Al-Afaf Institute in Taiz, based on previous presidential directives before the national consensus stage represented by the presidential leadership council, it said.

This came weeks after the formation of the Presidential Command Council’s High Joint Military and Security Committee on Army Restructuring, Security, and Stabilization.

Following the formation of the Yemeni presidential command council, the Supreme Military and Security Committee, on May 30th under the leadership of Maj. Gen. Haitham Taher, the Brotherhood quickly distributed recruitment forms to its members in an effort to annex them to state institutions.

According to Yemeni experts, the Brotherhood’s recruitment of additional new forces also aims to fill the fake names that were previously adopted as “ghost soldiers” and later sought to include elements loyal to the organization in order to pre-empt and disrupt any military and security restructuring.

Although the Yemeni government put an end to Brotherhood recruitment in the interior, the experts urged the Presidential Command Council to stop any recruitment that would disrupt the security of liberated areas, including within the Ministry of Defense, and to activate the Supreme Military and Security Committee as a deterrent to the Houthi coup and terrorism.

Former Yemeni president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi relieved his deputy, Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, in April, before handing over power to the Leadership Council, which represents various powers, at the conclusion of the Riyadh consultations under the auspices of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
