Yemeni Presidential maintains restraint over Houthi violations
Yemen’s Presidential Command Council has affirmed its commitment to exercising restraint in the face of Houthi militia violations in order to serve the continuation of the UN truce and alleviate the humanitarian suffering imposed by the Houthis.
This came during a meeting held by the Yemeni Presidential Council on Saturday to review reports on the military and economic situation, as well as the ongoing negotiations to end the siege of the Houthi militias on the city of Taiz and other provinces.
The Presidential Command Council heard a report from Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Mohammed Ali Al-Maqdashi on Houthi militia violations of the UN truce on various fronts, resulting in deaths and injuries to the army and the resistance.
The Defense Minister’s report indicated that Houthi militias continue to push more of their misguided gunmen into various contact areas.
In this context, the Presidential Command Council reiterated its commitment to restraint in the face of the Houthi militias’ violations, in order to serve the continuation of the truce and to alleviate the humanitarian situation in the country.
The Vice-President of the Council, Othman Majli, gave a briefing on the efforts of the Government Economic Group in Saudi Arabia, with the participation of the leadership of the Central Bank of Yemen, to meet the requirements to absorb the financial pledges made by the brothers in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Abdullah al-Alimi, a member of the Council, also briefed on the UN-sponsored negotiations in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on opening the Taiz crossings and other cities.
He noted that the Houthi militia had been intransigent in fulfilling its obligations under the UN-backed truce Agreement.
The humanitarian truce went into effect on April 2nd and will last until June 2nd. The Yemeni government fulfilled its humanitarian provisions through the flow of fuel through the port of Hodeida and flights to Sanaa airport.
Former Yemeni president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi handed over power to the Leadership Council, a group of different powers, in April, after consultations in Riyadh under the auspices of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
