Yemen’s Muslim Brotherhood exacerbates suffering of citizens in Taiz.. Details

Brotherhood levies and incidents on Taiz’s alternative routes have taken a heavy toll on the province’s traders and added economic burdens on citizens.

Taiz traders complained that truck drivers imposed higher freight rates; They are facing increased levies by the Muslim Brotherhood’s authority on transportation lines in alternative routes to the besieged city of Taiz, as well as increasing accidents due to the excavations, Yemen News reported.

Trade sources and transport sector workers said that more than 40 trucking accidents took place during the month of November and the first week of December on alternative roads in Taiz due to the neglect of improving alternative routes, despite the fact that large sums of drivers were collected through collection points scattered along the roads.

The sources added that levies and the lack of maintenance of alternative roads to Taiz under the control of the Muslim Brotherhood militias have doubled the effects of the siege imposed by the Houthi group on the province.

Truck drivers and merchants criticized the silence of security and military authorities and agencies in regard to the practices and imposition of taxes collected without official documents. They accused these entities of benefiting from the collection and the continuation of the Houthi siege on the city.

Around 10 points are positioned on the Taiz-Lahij lending road, which charges levies more than half a million riyals. In addition, there are six points at the Taiz-Lahj transportation office in al-Tarbah area, which ends at Jabal Han.
