10 Wrong habits leading to obesity: Doctor dispels a common belief
The causes of obesity are not limited to unhealthy eating habits; other factors can lead to weight gain, including sleep and physical activity.
Egyptian doctor Ola Ahmed, a therapeutic nutrition specialist, warned of daily wrong habits that typically lead to obesity.
Dr. Ahmed said: “There is a common misconception among people that only dietary habits are the cause of obesity, but it is associated with several factors.”
She added, “Dietary habits, water consumption, hours and quality of sleep, activity level, exercise, in addition to blood pressure and stress levels, all contribute to obesity.”
She explained, “What is the benefit of consuming five meals a day without drinking an adequate and appropriate amount of water? What is the point of eating healthily while increasing water intake without getting enough hours of sleep?” Habits That Can Lead to Obesity She further stated, “It’s a complex system where no link can be neglected, and therefore, it’s not limited to dietary habits and eating methods alone.” She pointed out some of the wrong habits that can lead to obesity, including:
- Overeating.
- Consuming high-calorie foods.
- Excessive consumption of starchy foods.
- Skipping or delaying breakfast for an extended period.
- Incorrect arrangement of foods during meals.
- Strict and intermittent fasting diets.
- Neglecting to drink enough water.
- Lack of exercise and low physical activity.
- Not getting enough quality sleep.
- Continuously experiencing high pressure and stress.
