43rd GCC summit kicks off in Riyadh
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman delivered a speech at the 43rd Gulf Summit, which coincides with the first Gulf-China Summit to be held on the same day.
The two summits will be among the four to be held in Saudi Arabia on Friday, coinciding with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the kingdom, where Riyadh is also hosting a Sino-Saudi summit and the first Arab-Chinese summit.
The 43rd GCC summit is the fifth in a row to be hosted by Saudi Arabia, the first in the history of the GCC since its founding in 1981.
Oman chairs the current session of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), and the summit will be held in Riyadh after an amendment allowing the Presidency Council (Oman at that session) to hold the summit at its headquarters, a measure agreed during the 37th GCC summit held in Bahrain in 2016.
