Netanyahu Promises Bennett Government: We’ll drop it as soon as possible

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended his government on Sunday, saying his government has “turned Israel into a giant power.”

In a stormy session of the Knesset to give confidence to the new government, Netanyahu added that “we have strongly resisted Iran’s attempt to acquire a nuclear weapon, and we have signed historic peace agreements with the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco.”

“The peace agreements have achieved the principle of peace in exchange for peace, which was not an easy achievement,” he said.

The Israeli Prime Minister continued to defend his government, saying that “we have prevented Iran from positioning itself militarily in Syria through air attacks, we have also destroyed the tunnels that Hamas built over the past years in the Gaza Strip and we have made significant security achievements.”

“We have carried out audacious operations deep inside Iran and our achievements have turned Israel into a rising state, and we have rejected the US request to keep our differences on Iran’s nuclear program in closed rooms,” he said.

Netanyahu said his government “will be in the opposition until we topple this government and return to power,” adding that the new government “will not be able to approve any real operations inside Iran to prevent it from acquiring a nuclear weapon.”

“Another challenge before us is to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital,” he said, adding that he had rejected a request by the US administration to freeze settlement construction.

“I have returned twice from the opposition, and each time, we will correct the mistakes of previous governments,” he said.

Netanyahu accused the new Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett of stealing the votes of the right, saying “he will be held accountable by the elections, the public will not forget.”

“I will defeat anyone if there is a direct election on the formation of the Israeli government,” he said.

Netanyahu threatened the new government headed by Bennett. “We will stand before it and we will bring it down as soon as many expect,” he said.

Before the vote on a vote of confidence for the new government of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, the Israeli Knesset was plunged into chaos.

Amid the tug-of-war, Prime Minister-designate Bennett thanked Benjamin Netanyahu for his 12 years as prime minister.

But deputies from parties allied with Netanyahu boycotted Bennett during his speech, calling him a “liar.”

Minutes later, the head of the right-wing Judaism Zionist Party, Bezalel Smotrich, was expelled from the chamber.
