Iran comments on Israel’s new government and Netanyahu’s departure

Iran has played down the prospect of a change in Israel’s policy toward it, following the formation of the new government and the departure of Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu.

In her first comments on the change in the Israeli political scene and the formation of a “government of change,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Saeed Khatib Zadeh, ruled out, Monday, any changes in Israel’s foreign and security policy towards his country.

Speaking at a press conference, which was followed by al-Ain News Correspondent, Khatib Zadeh said that Iran does not expect a change in Israel’s foreign and security policy with the formation of a new government headed by Bennett, after the departure of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Khatib Zadeh described Netanyahu as “Iran’s enemy”; saying: “The enemies of our country are gone and Iran is still strong, and I don’t think Israel’s policies will change with the new government.”

On Sunday, the Knesset voted to give the new Israeli government, headed by Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid, a vote of confidence, after 60 votes to 59.

Addressing the vote, Bennett stressed that “the greatest threat to Israel is Iran’s nuclear program.”

He continued : “Resuming the nuclear deal with Iran is a mistake because it seeks to acquire nuclear weapons.”

He added : “Israel will not enable Iran to have a nuclear weapon,” he continued : “Israel has faced significant challenges, including from Iran and international institutions such as the UN.”
