8 dead, 9 missing in east of China hotel collapse
On Tuesday, local authorities in China reported that at least eight people had been killed in the collapse of a hotel in the eastern part of the country.
The Suzhou city government of Jiangsu province said that 8 bodies had been recovered, while 9 were still missing under the rubble.
The incident happened suddenly on Monday afternoon, and the city government said that 14 people had been rescued so far, and 13 of them injured.
The city said that a large-scale search and rescue operation is still under way, with search dogs and teams of earthquake specialists deployed.
The cause of the collapse was not immediately clear and investigations are continuing.
Provincial authorities have called for safety inspections to prevent similar incidents elsewhere.
Suzhou is located about 100 kilometers east of Shanghai.
