Iranian President announces the objectives of his visit to Qatar

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi announced today that the first objective of his visit to the Qatari capital Doha is to strengthen bilateral relations with the State of Qatar.

Raisi’s statement, which was carried by IRNA, comes before his departure for Doha today at the official invitation of the Emir of Qatar Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

Ebrahim Raisi said: The first objective of this visit is to strengthen bilateral relations with the brotherly and neighboring State of Qatar, he said, adding that the second objective is to participate in the 6th Summit of Gas Exporting Countries, hosted by the State of Qatar.

Raisi explained that his visit to Qatar comes within the framework of activating the diplomacy of the neighboring countries, especially the Arab Gulf countries, and using the capabilities of these countries to strengthen political and economic relations, referring to the joint gas field between Iran and Qatar. The level of our cooperation with Doha in the field of energy is very high, and we will hold negotiations with the Qatari side on the economy and the energy sector.

Raisi considered enhancing Iran’s cooperation with the Gas Producing and Exporting Countries Forum another goal of his visit to Qatar, adding: The forum was formed at the initiative of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we are one of the founders of the forum.

Iran, Qatar and Russia are the most important producers and exporters of natural gas in the world, Raisi added, noting that the negotiations we might hold at the summit could be a very important step to strengthen cooperation between the countries that produce and export gas. He expressed his hope that bilateral meetings would be held with the countries participating in the summit during this visit.
