Naim Qassem dismissed the prospect of an escalation of violence between the Iran-backed party and Israel

The deputy leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, has refused the prospect of an escalation of violence between the party supported by Iran and Israel despite the increased tensions in the last week.

Qassem reported in an interview on Sunday: The atmosphere does not indicate a war … It’s unlikely, the atmosphere of war in the next few months. The tensions were increased along the frontier of Israel with Syria and Lebanon after Hezbollah reported that a fighter was killed in an apparent Israeli strike on the edge of Damascus last week.

After two Hezbollah members were killed in Damascus in August 2019, the leader of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah affirmed that the group would act if Israel will kill any more of its fighters inside Syria. So, the Israeli military has since strengthened its forces on its northern front.

Moreover, an Israeli drone crashes inside Lebanon during operational activity along the border, which an Israeli military spokeswoman reported on Sunday.

Analysts said also that Hezbollah and Israel desire to avoid an all-out conflict at a time of regional tensions and maintain rules of engagement drawn up since the party fought a one-month war with Israel in 2006.

Qassem declared also: There is no change of rules of engagement and the deterrent equation with Israel exists and we are not planning to change it.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reported on Sunday that the Lebanese state was responsible for an assault on Israel from within its territory.
