Tunisia – Besieging the Ennahdha movement is the first step towards the abolition of extremist organizations

The most recent of these was the prevention of the movement and its arms from participating in the parliamentary elections by a decision from the Court of Accounts, the highest judicial oversight body in Tunisia, after it was proven that it obtained foreign funding and was involved in many terrorist crimes.

Parliamentary cleansing

The decision to ban the Muslim Brotherhood movement was preceded by a decision issued by the Tunisian Committee for Financial Analysis, allowing Tunisian banks to freeze the assets of Ennahdha President Rached Ghannouchi, his son and his son-in-law, and former General Secretary of the movement Hamadi Jebali and his two daughters. These strikes targeted at the Ennahdha Movement came amid many calls for the dissolution of this Muslim Brotherhood movement and even the trial of its leaders, foremost among them Rached Ghannouchi, the leader of the movement, for their involvement in many crimes and terrorist acts.

Besieging the Brotherhood

Badra Gaaloul, director of the National Center for Strategic Studies in Tunisia, says that what the Tunisian state is doing now is to besiege the Ennahdha Movement of the Muslim Brotherhood, after the Tunisian people have pronounced it and rejected its presence again in the political scene in Tunisia, as the siege is now the first step to end terrorist organizations forever in Tunisia.

Gaaloul added: “At the present time, urgent decisions must be taken to dissolve this Brotherhood movement, as it was responsible for terrorist operations, assassinations, and the looting of Tunisian people’s money when it was in control in Tunisia”. She added: “Now is the time for immediate trials against all those implicated in and proven to have committed crimes of murder, terrorism, and looting against the Tunisian people and state”.
