Tunisia continues its strikes against the plans of the Muslim Brotherhood – Trial of Ennahdha Islamist elements
The Tunisian authorities continue to strike the Muslim Brotherhood and its allies, represented by Ennahdha in Tunisia, after this came to light with their plans to return to the political scene in Tunisia, which were doomed to failure in the face of the security and judicial crackdowns that bedeviled the movement.
Wave of arrests
Since the July 25, 2021, measures that began with an initial wave of arrests between the 11th and the 15th of this month targeted at least nine people. The authorities also arrested three opposition leaders: Chaima Issa and Issam Chebbi on February 22nd, and Jawhar Bin Mubarak on February 24th. The arrests also included former Ministers Ghazi Chaouachi and Ridha Belhaj, and President Kais Saied stressed the need to proceed firmly with the campaign of accountability.
Terrorist plot
For his part, Tunisian President Kais Saied said that the sacred duty is to protect the state and the nation from those who have nothing but power and money and who do not hesitate to belong in the arms of any foreign party, stressing the need to open all files, especially those related to corruption, and to hold accountable all those who committed crimes against the Tunisian people.
The Tunisian president stressed that the right to health represents a human right and the State must implement it in all regions of the country, pointing out that many tried to dismantle the State and are today trying by all means to inflame social conditions to achieve their scandalous goals by further undermining the people’s livelihood and daily life, stressing the need to respect the law and the role of the judiciary in enforcing it.
Judicial decisions
In this context, the specialized anti-terrorism judiciary has sentenced influential businessman Kamel Eltaief, leading Ennahdha figure Abdelhamid Jelassi and political activist Khayam Turki to prison for conspiring against state security and plotting a coup against President Kais Saied.
The decision was made after hours of investigation. Investigations with the remaining detainees are continuing, and it is expected to be decided within the next few hours to issue prison deposit cards against them or release them.
According to Tunisian sources, around 17 people are involved in this case; They include prominent leaders of Ennahdha, accused of conspiring against state security, attempting to carry out terrorist crimes, harming state food security, and financial corruption.
The list includes leaders of Ennahdha, members of the opposition Salvation Front, politicians, businessmen, and foreign figures among those arrested. Among those arrested is political activist Khayam Turki, a former finance minister and close associate of Ennahdha.
Ennahdha slaps
Oussama Aouidet, a Tunisian political analyst and a leader in the Tunisian People’s Movement, said that the case that involved many leaders and elements of the Ennahdha Muslim Brotherhood is conspiracy against the internal and external security of the state, and fabrication of crises, and that what the state is currently doing is applying the law and cleansing the country.
The Tunisian analyst added that this comes within the framework of the war declared by the Tunisian state on corruption within the course of establishing the new Tunisian Republic, which was announced by President Kais Saied, and prosecuting conspirators on the security of the state, and those who try to manipulate food prices.
The strong blows dealt to the pro-Ennahdha political belt, which is complicit in conspiring against the security of the state, are aimed at besieging the movement and isolating it from its surroundings, before opening its terrorist files.
