Study: These medications may cause sudden heart attacks in users
A recent study revealed that some medications commonly taken by many people may lead to sudden heart attacks.
How the ketogenic diet can help prediabetics?
The study shed light on factors that increase the risk of heart attacks for type 2 diabetes patients. This research was conducted by scientists at the University of Amsterdam and was discussed at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes in Hamburg, Germany.
Among the factors contributing to the risk of heart attacks are certain medications, including antibiotics, motility drugs for digestive issues, antipsychotics, and treatments for lowering blood sugar levels during fasting hours.
According to the study, type 2 diabetes patients are at twice the risk of suffering a heart attack compared to those without diabetes.
The scientists found that some commonly used medications, particularly those related to promoting motility, antibiotics, and antipsychotics, can alter the heart’s electrical system. This can result in patients experiencing dizziness, weakness, and heart palpitations, occasionally progressing to fainting.
Among the highlighted treatments identified by the scientists that may cause cardiac disturbances are “domperidone,” “macrolides,” “fluoroquinolones,” and “haloperidol.”
