Smart speaker facilitates the lives of diabetes patients

Researchers from Stanford University School of Medicine in the United States have developed an artificial intelligence application to assist patients with type 2 diabetes in managing their blood sugar levels.

Insulin in a chocolate… A new life for diabetes patients without injections The application relies on a familiar device used by tens of millions of Americans, namely a “smart speaker,” typically used for playing music. The application informs patients of the correct insulin dosage without requiring them to contact their doctor’s office or wait for an appointment.

This application provides insulin dosage recommendations without the need for direct contact with healthcare providers.

The study, published in “JAMA Network Open,” included 32 individuals with type 2 diabetes who required insulin.

Participants using the voice-activated artificial intelligence system achieved optimal blood glucose levels faster than the control group. They reported better adherence to prescribed insulin doses and experienced fewer diabetes-related issues.

The AI-supported system, tested through a small experiment, allows remote patient intervention, reducing the need for frequent doctor appointments.

Researchers believe that the voice-activated device has the potential to enhance accessibility, ease of use, and comfort, especially for older patients with type 2 diabetes.

The system, currently programmed in English, can be adapted to other languages and expanded to monitor responses to various diabetes medications and other potential chronic diseases.
