Iraq: Father Kills His Family of 12 Before Committing Suicide
In the Shatt al-Arab district, east of Basra, southern Iraq, on Wednesday evening, a father took the lives of his family of 12 before committing suicide.
The father opened fire on his family, including children and women, inside their home in the Employees’ District in the Shatt al-Arab district.
A video clip (apologies for its publication) showed shocking scenes of the victims stained with blood inside the house.
Colonel Aziz Al-Abbadi, the media director of the Basra Police Command, stated that “the murder that occurred on Wednesday evening in the Employees’ District of the Shatt al-Arab district claimed the lives of 12 members of a family.”
Al-Abbadi confirmed that “the father, the perpetrator, then committed suicide due to his involvement in financial debts amounting to one billion Iraqi dinars, which subjected him to psychological pressures leading him to commit the crime and then suicide.”
